The 1920s saw the beginning of a dance craze in Britain and many Palais venues were built all around the country. The first was the Hammersmith Palais de Danse, which opened in London in 1919.

During the 1920s and ‘30s the most popular dances were the Charleston, the modern slow waltz, the quickstep and the foxtrot. These allowed couples to dance together whilst interpreting the steps in their own way.

The Hammersmith Palais featured its own lively group dances, the Palais Stroll and the later Palais Glide, similar to the Lambeth Walk. These were adopted by the many Palais, actively promoted by the managements to encourage ‘social’ dancing. As the popularity of ballroom dancing grew, Saturday nights saw in excess of 2,000 people at many of the venues.

Brandyn, His 'Radio' Rhythm Makers and Guest Artistes will make each event a night to remember as they immerse you in all that made those dances so special during that Golden Age of British Dance Bands & Social Ballroom Dancing.
